City of Fairfax Parks Gets State Recognition

This is great news from our Parks and Recreation Director Mike McCarty...

The City of Fairfax Parks and Recreation Department received 3 major awards on Monday, September 14 at the Virginia Recreation and Park Society Annual Conference and Awards Banquet.

The city was awarded the following:

Best New Facility Award for Stafford Drive Park

Best New Renovation/Addition Award for Draper Drive Park

Best Promotional Award for the Fall Festival Guide

This is a huge accomplishment for the city one that all departments and city leadership should be proud of. There were many people that played an important role in this achievement; the Mayor and City Council members that purchased the property and worked extensively with the community to develop the best plan; the city staff that reviewed and implemented the plans; FPYC for their commitment personally and financially; the staff in the parks and recreation department for managing the project and keeping costs down; William H. Gordon the design and architect firm on the project; and the community members that supported the effort.

This is also the second time the city has been recognized for such achievements through the parks and recreation department. The city received its first award last year for the Best Promotional Award for the 2008 Independence Day Brochure.

The plaques are available for viewing in the Parks and Recreation Department office.
