Just got home from our first Council meeting of 2010. Riveting it was not. Had some land use issues during a work session, namely two proposed developments along 123 and then Icons Sports Bar on Main Street looking to get permission for dancing and music. It's not Rain, they assured us of that.
Also, the Auld Shebeen was approved to continue music and dancing (think jigs!).
The point here is that things are happening in the City. People and businesses are investing and making a concerted effort to be here in the City. This is the best place in Northern Virginia to work, raise a family and enjoy life. And I can say that the the goal of the Council is to make sure more progress is made.
This is why I was glad my colleagues concurred with an initiative to have the City, working with Destination Fairfax (started by colleague Joan Cross) to remind people that they do have a choice of where they shop and where they dine. By "buying in Fairfax" they are "investing in Fairfax" - in our schools, our roads, our parks and improving our quality of life.
More's to come but I hope you will make every effort to spend your dollars right here in the City of Fairfax.
